Talking NYC Policy and Politics with Civil Servants
Follow the Podcast and Blog
New York City is the largest City in the world. Lovably known as the city that never sleeps, it is home to millions of people, all of which require an array of city services to be available, and hopefully successfully provided. The list is vast-- it's education, policing, waste management and removal, transportation, community development, housing, homeless services, mental health support, pandemic management, legislation, enforcement, and so much more. The decisions made dictate and influence so much for citizens, small businesses, and larger corporate presence. This is just a sampling of what we mostly hear about, but city services are so complex and massive.
You'll get perspectives on how these city services are running from politicians, the media reporting on tv or in the papers, and constituents, but there is a crucial perspective that is often unheard-- that of the people that actually do the work that moves the services forward. They have stories, experiences, insights, and ideas to innovate and improve how this city is run, yet they are the last people to be asked, if they are asked at all. Every new idea changes the course of their work, and they are the front lines for implementing public services, that if done right can be transformative, and if done poorly, can affect generations to come.
Check out Civil Conversations, where we'll explore the hot policy and political topics, from those who are tasked with implementing, and executing public services. We'll hear their takes on policy that exists, policies that we should revamp, and get real insight into how things work, inside out, bottom up.
